Sphaerotheca is a genus of true frogs. They can be found in South Asia. Molecular data suggest that they are closely related to Fejervarya, perhaps as a monophyletic group within a paraphyletic Fejervarya.[1]
Species
As of 2014, the Amphibian Species of the World recognizes five species:[1]
- Sphaerotheca breviceps (Schneider, 1799)
- Sphaerotheca dobsoni (Boulenger, 1882)
- Sphaerotheca leucorhynchus (Rao, 1937)
- Sphaerotheca rolandae (Dubois, 1983)
- Sphaerotheca strachani (Murray, 1884)
Some sources, in particular the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the AmphibiaWeb,[2] include also the following two species that the Amphibian Species of the World considers synonyms of Sphaerotheca breviceps:[3]
- Sphaerotheca maskeyi (Schleich & Anders, 1998)
- Sphaerotheca swani (Myers et Leviton in Leviton, Myers & Swan, 1956)
