Sorted Food is a British YouTube cooking channel and food website created by old school friends from Hertfordshire - Ben Ebbrell, Mike Huttlestone, Jamie Spafford and Barry Taylor. The four met up again as tertiary students and realized they all had dietary problems.[1] The channel started on March 10, 2010 and has grown to attract a hugely engaged audience all over the world who watch and help shape the content.

History

The Sorted Food YouTube channel was launched in March 2010 by Jamie Spafford, Ben Ebbrell, Barry Taylor and Mike Huttlestone.[2][3][4] The basis for the channel's accessible recipes came when Ebbrell, the only member with any culinary training,[2] started suggesting simple and cheap recipes for the others to try instead of eating only ready meals.[3] More recently, the four have been joined by their friend and fellow chef James Currie in the majority of their videos.

In 2015, the four Sorted Food members went on a three-month USA tour for NBC's Today Show[1]

Current Content

As of January 2018 the company has 14 employees based in East London[5] and now provide regular video content for their YouTube audience with a skew towards entertainment, inspiration and education in food and cooking content. Their most popular series named "FridgeCam" continues to push boundaries and they work closely with respected global brands to create engaging content to help spread campaign or brand values and messaging, including the likes of Ford, Android Pay, Co-op, Kellogg's, Kenwood, Rennie and the US Tourism Board.[6]

Publishing

The first two Sorted cookbooks, A Recipe for Student Survival and A Rookies Guide to Crackin' Cooking, were self-published in 2008 and 2012 respectively through "Co-Incidence Ventures" and released in both paperback and hardback editions.[3][4] In 2012 they signed with Penguin Books and have so far released a beginners cookbook, Beginners Get... Sorted and an eBook, Food with Friends, which is also available in individual chapters.[3] Their most recent publishing efforts saw them create "Desserts in Duvets" with the aid of a KickStarter campaign, funded by their ever-growing online community.[7]
