Sonia Peres (or Sonya Peres; born as Sonia Gelman; 27 March, 1923, Mizoch, Poland (nowadays Ukraine) - January 20, 2011, Tel Aviv)[1] was the wife of the President and Prime Minister of Israel, Shimon Peres.
She served in the British Army during world War II, and for many years volunteered anonymously for the sick, handicapped children and the disabled. She rarely appeared in public eye, preferring to play a backstage role in her husband's six-decade political career.[2]
