Software Advice is a company that provides research and user reviews on software applications for small and mid-sized businesses in markets such as "Business Intelligence" and "Marketing automation" in addition to more than 300 other categories.[1][2] Founded in 2005 by CEO Don Fornes, it now operates as a subsidiary of Gartner and has over 100 employees.[3][4] The company's reports have been used as a source of expertise in Forbes,[5][6][7][8] Entrepreneur,[9] Huffington Post,[10] Business Insider,[11] Yelp,[12] Inc.,[13][14] and the Wall Street Journal[15] among others.

History

Software Advice, Inc., formerly known as River Guide, Inc., was founded in 2005 in San Francisco, California by CEO Don Fornes.[3] In 2009, the company's headquarters moved to its current location in Austin, Texas.[16] In March 2014, Software Advice was acquired by Gartner, Inc., a global information technology research and advisory company.[1] Also in March 2014, the company hired its 100th employee.

Product

The company advises buyers on software products via telephone consultation.[1][17] The Software Advice website gives pricing and demo information on individual systems, as well as market reports based on buyer interactions.[2][18]

Recognition

In 2016 & 2017, the company was recognized as a Top Place to Work in the Austin, Texas area.[19]
