Skipp Whitman is a hip-hop artist from Brookline, Massachusetts, USA. He has released five self-produced albums, the first “Free Agent” in 2007, “Skipp City” in 2011, "5am" in September 2012, "Whitman Cant Jump" in 2014, and most recently "Piece" in February 2017 along with multiple Mixtapes which include 'Whitman Fiasco,' and 'Clean.'

Whitman has opened for Kanye West when West was on tour promoting college dropouts. He has also opened for KRS, Talib Kweli, Kool G Rap, Nas and Guru.[1][2] Whitman produces most of his own work but has collaborated with Grafh and Skyzoo.

Whitman describes his music as, “autobiographic, reminiscent and honest to a fault”.[1] In Skipp City, he self-produced the album with samples from “Amazing Grace” and “Destination Unknown”.[3]

His first self-produced CD was “Mention The Eye, Out to Breakfast” in 2005. A self-produced mix tape called “Skipp Whitman vs. Richard Pryor” was released in 2009.[4]

Whitman grew up in an upper-middle-class neighborhood town to artist parents. He describes himself as “fierce, stubborn and independent”. Whitman has real estate licenses in Massachusetts, New York, and California, where he has worked selling real estate [2]

Controversies

In 2009, a mix tape called “Skipp Whitman vs. Richard Pryor” was reworked after complaints from Richard Pryor’s ex-wife over the unauthorized use of samples from Pryor’s stand-up performances. The mix tape was later released as a “Clean” version.[4]

Performances

He has performed shows around the US in Boston, Mass, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Virginia, Cincinnati and Montreal.[2]

Skipp Whitman has performed in 2010 at “The Western Front” in Cambridge and The Church in Boston.
