Sistema Plastics

Sistema Plastics is a food storage container business based in New Zealand and owned by Newell Brands.[1][2][3]

Brendan Lindsay founded Sistema Plastics in New Zealand in 1987. Newell Brands bought it in 2017. The company name Sistema comes from the Italian word for systems.[4] The company is focused on BPA-free plastic kitchen storage containers under the brand names KLIP IT and Klipo.

Worker exploitation

In September 2018 Sistema staff and their union accused the company of exploiting vulnerable migrant workers. Workers were required to work 60 hour weeks including night shifts at minimum wage, without overtime, and minimal allowances for meals etc. The company was also found to be paying non-union staff more than union members. A petition against the company's behaviour has been started and a campaign to boycott their products has also been circulated, including calls for retailers like supermarkets to not sell items produced by exploitive producers.
