Sir John Walrond Walrond, 1st Baronet (1 March 1818 – 23 April 1889)[2], of Bradfield House, Uffculme in Devon, known as John Walrond Dickinson until 22 April 1845, was a British Conservative Party politician.[3]
Political career
Walrond was elected MP for Tiverton in 1865, but stood down at the next election in 1868. He stood for the seat a number of times over the next 12 years - in 1872, 1874 and 1880 - but without success.[4] He was selected High Sheriff of Devon for 1874-75.[3]
Baronetcy
Walrond was created 1st Baronet of Bradfield, Devon on 24 February 1876. On his death, his son William Walrond inherited the title, which was then merged with the Waleran baronetcy on its creation for him.[5][3]
Marriage & progeny
On 20 May 1845 Walrond married Frances Caroline Hood, a daughter of Samuel Hood, 2nd Baron Bridport by his wife Charlotte Nelson, 3rd Duchess of Bronté, by whom he had five children, 2 sons and 3 daughters:
- William Hood Walrond, 1st Baron Waleran (born 1849), eldest son and heir;
- Arthur Melville Walrond (born 1861);
- Katherine Mary Walrond (born 1846);
- Margaret Walrond (born 1850);
- Gertrude Walrond (born 1853), wife of Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, 12th Baronet, died without progeny.
