Sir George Warrender, 1st Baronet

Sir George Warrender of Lochend, 1st Baronet (c. 1658 – 4 March 1722) of Lochend, Edinburgh[1] was a Scottish merchant and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1715 to 1722.

Warrender was the only son of George Warrender and Margaret Cunninghame.[2]

Warrender became a dealer of foreign trade at Edinburgh[3] and its Lord Provost for 1713–14[4] As a supporter of the House of Hanover,[3] he was created a Baronet, of Lochend, in the County of Haddington by King George I of Great Britain on 2 June 1715.[5] Subsequently, he represented Edinburgh as Member of Parliament (MP) until his death in 1722.[6]

Warrender married firstly Margaret Lawrie and after her death, secondly Grizel Blair, daughter of Hugh Blair.[2] He had a son and daughter by his first wife, and three sons and five daughters by his second wife.[2] Warrender died at London and was buried at Bunhill Fields.[4] He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his oldest son John.[7]
