Sindh Agriculture University, (Sindhi: سنڌ زرعي يونيورسٽي ٽنڊو ڄام ) is situated in Tando Jam town at 18 km from Hyderabad, on Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas highway and is about 200 km from Karachi airport linked with super highway to Hyderabad. Sindh Agriculture University is ranked 4th best university in Agriculture by the Higher Education Commission.[1]

The university is an academic complex of five faculties, two centres, two constituent college and Directorate of Advanced Studies and Research. The five faculties are Faculty of Crop Production, Faculty of Crop Protection, Faculty of Agricultural Social Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences. Three graduate degree programmes are offered in the five faculties majoring in almost 36 departments. These include the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M), Bachelor of Engineering in Agriculture (B.E.Agriculture) and Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) Honors. The university offers postgraduate programmes leading to the award of M.Sc, degree in Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Agricultural Engineering and in all the above-mentioned disciplines of Agriculture. M.Phil and Ph.D degree programmes are also offered in selected subject areas where trained staff and other facilities are available.

A modest number of short courses and training programmes are regularly offered to meet the continuing and in service education needs of Agriculture Officers, Field Assistants, Bank Officials, Agricultural Technicians, Progressive Farmers, Small Farmers, Tenants, Gardeners, Housewives and other clientele groups.

The total area covered by the university is 416.66 acres (1.6862 km2) including an area of more than 80 acres occupied by residential and non-residential buildings of the University, Agricultural Research Institute, Nuclear Institute of Agriculture, Rural Academy, Agricultural Engineering Workshop, Drainage Research Centre, and Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

The faculty emerged as a result of bifurcation of the faculty of Agriculture in 1987. The Faculty happens to be the largest faculty of the university comprising following departments and institute. All departments and the institute offer both graduate and post-graduate degrees.

  3. Department of Horticulture.
  4. Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics.
  5. Department of Biotechnology.
  6. Department of Crop Physiology.
  7. Institute of Food Sciences & Technology.

The faculty imparts practical training to the students and enriches its research endeavors through experimental farms (Latif & Malir), advanced computer labs with internet facilities. The laboratory facilities possess basic and highly advanced equipment. An internship Program has been included in the new scheme of studies which is also a feather in its cap. The teaching staff is highly qualified and trained through local and overseas training programs. The faculty, over the time, has trained a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students in various disciplines of agriculture.

Mission Statement: The Faculty of Crop Production is committed to the preparation of students for life in the global community through research and educational programs for supporting sustainable agriculture systems that foster viable communities, a diversified economy and a healthy living environment.

Job Opportunities: The graduates and postgraduates will have immense opportunities in various disciplines of agriculture and allied sciences in public and private sector organizations, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies viz, Zarai Tarqiati Bank of Pakistan (ZTBP), Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Pakistan Council for Research on Water Resources (PCRWR), WAPDA, Fruit Preservation and Food Industries. Their services can also be utilized in provincial and federal departments of Agricultural Extension, Research, Teaching, Forestry, Cooperatives, Pakistan Central Cotton Committee, Federal Seed Certification Department (FSCD), Public Parks and Gardens, Seed Corporations, EPA, SCARP, Sindh Sugar Corporation, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and other departments. Pakistan Broadcasting, other corporations and commercial banks, National Planning Commission, USAID, FAO, LEAD, National Talent Pool and agriculture consultancy firms are some of the alternatives where they can excel with the talent they have harnessed.
