Simbor is a small area of 0.91 square kilometers situated in the cove Simbor, 20 km east of Diu. The region was under the control of the Portuguese, as part of Estado Português da Índia, until the Annexation of Goa by the Republic of India in December 1961
Geography
The Simbor region consists of two strips of land on either side of a creek (Rio Vançoso) and a small island in the Bay of Simbol, which is home to The Fort Pani-Kota (Fort of the Sea), erstwhile known as Fort St. Anthony of Simbor (Portuguese : Santo António de Simbor). The Fort was subordinate to the former Distrito de Diu (Part of Damão e Diu) and defended the supply of the boats on that stretch of coast.[1]
