Silapathar is a city in Dhemaji district in the Indian state of Assam. The city is situated on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, and is located 470 kilometres from the city of Guwahati and just 9 km from Arunachal Pradesh.
It is the commercial hub of Dhemaji district and Arunachal Pradesh, the place has a heady mix of indigenous Assamese people belonging mainly to the Mishings, and immigrants namely Nepali, Hindi and Bengali people.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Silapathar had a population of 22,307. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Silapathar has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 63%. In Silapathar, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Transportation
Lilabari airport which falls under the town of Lakhimpur district is the nearest airport from Silapathar. Very few flights fly from Lilabari Airport as it is not so commercially active. Ongoing construction of Bogibeel Bridge over the river Brahmaputra, joining Silapathar and Dibrugarh, will provide easy access to the more commercially active MohanBari Airport. Currently NH-52 is connected to the city later the ongoing Bogibeel bridge with connect the city with NH-37. ASTC Silapathar provides bus and Share taxi day and night services on daily basis. Silapathar Railway Station of Rangiya Railway Division give acess to people of Likabali and nearby areas.
It is well connected to the state and the country through roadways and railways. The ongoing project Bogibeel bridge will soon connect the city through airways Monabari airport 64km away from the city until the end of year 2018
