Prelude
In 1613, during the Ingrian War, the fortress, called Oreshek ("hazelnut" in Russian), was captured by the Swedes. They renamed it in Noteborg ("nut-fortress")[1].
Siege
In June 1656 during the Russo-Swedish War (1656–1658) the detachments of voivode Peter Potemkin managed to occupy the lands of Vodskaya Pyatina lost in 1613, and block the Swedes in the fortress, but the fortress itself, unlike Nienschanz , was never taken[2].
Aftermath
In 1702 the city was conquered from Swedes by Peter the Great , who gave it the current name, Shlisselburg ("key-fortress").
