Shon Faye

Shon Faye is a writer, presenter, editor, artist, comedian and an activist for LGBTQ, women's, and mental health rights based in Bristol, United Kingdom. She is an editor-at-large at Dazed and has contributed features and comment journalism to The Guardian, The Independent, VICE, n+1, Attitude, Verso and others.[1]

Life and work

Faye's editing and writing focuses on sexuality, feminism and mental health. She has written and appeared in two short films and her debut, 'Catechism', was exhibited at the Tate Britain 'Queer British Art' exhibition throughout 2017. Shon presents the online series Shon This Way[2] for Novara Media, which focusses on queer politics and history. In a 2017 historical review for The Guardian, political columnist Owen Jones cited Faye, along with Paris Lees and Munroe Bergdorf, as emerging "brilliant trans voices".[3]

Faye has written on the need for trans women to have access to rape and domestic violence services.[4] She presented at Amnesty International's Women Making History event, where she gave a speech calling to centre underprivileged trans women.[5] She also works for LGBT charity Stonewall, helping the organisation to better engage with trans communities.[6] She has recently been part of a UN Women campaign.

Faye has performed standup comedy in London and in Bristol, and held a fundraising comedy event for the UK 2018 Women's March on 8 March.

In 2017, Faye appeared as a woman looking for lipstick in the video for gay anthem "Neon Blue" by UK pop group Steps.
