Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti or Shiv Jayanti is a festival of Maharashtra. This festival is celebrated throughout Maharashtra on February 19, as per the Maharashtra resolution of the birth anniversary of the Maratha empire, Shivaji Maharaj. There is a public holidays in Maharashtra on this day. This festival is celebrated in a small extent at some places outside Maharashtra. Some people celebrate this day by Hindu Calendar in Maharashtra.

History

C. In 1869 Mahatma Jyotirao Phule discovered the Samadhi of Shivaji Maharaj on Raigad and wrote the first and the foremost poovada in his life. To reach the house of Shivaji Maharaj, Phule said, In 1870, Shiv Jayanti was started. This was the first Shiv Jayanti, and the first program of Shiv Jayanti was performed in Pune. From then on Shiv Jayanti started on a large scale. Further in the 20th Century, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar also celebrated Shiv Jayanti, who was twice president of Shiv Jayanti program.

Objective

The aim of celebrating Shiv Jayanti is that Shivaji Maharaj's noble thought should reach everyone in the society.
