Sheyene Gerardi (born April 13) is a Venezuelan actress, model, and television host. She is a survivor of an unclassifiable splenic hairy small B-Cell lymphoma non-Hodgkin, a rare cancer.[1][2] She founded the Sheyene Gerardi e-health, an online healthcare program for people with rare diseases.[3][4] She is the Lead for Robotics Outreach at NASA’s Center for Lunar and Asteroid Surface Science (CLASS). [5]

Career

Her career as a professional model began in conjunction with her medical education at Universidad Central de Venezuela. Gerardi modeled on the side to supplement her medical studies and she participated in the Miss Venezuela Pageant. Around this time a television producer discovered Gerardi and she became a soap opera actress, starring on Camaleona, Mujer con pantalones and Por todo lo alto. A non-profit school the Sheyene Gerardi School is named after her in 2007.[6][7][8]

She has hosted the television shows "Esta noche tu night", "A tacon quitao" and "Los implicados"[9]

In 2015, Gerardi released a book Dictated But Not Read.[10]

Gerardi has won the "Dos de Oro" award, She has received the key of the city in Barlovento and the Imagen del Mundo award.[11][12][13]

Sheyene Gerardi, is working with NASA Kennedy Space Center Swamp Works founder Dr. Philip Metzger and the Florida Space Institute (FSI) to teach Planetary engineering and creating Robotics Competitions for low-income children through Sheyene School.[14]

She operates Sheyene Gerardi E-health, which provides free medical consultations via Internet, email and via phone for people suffering from rare diseases.[8]

Sheyene is the Lead for Robotics Outreach at NASA’s Center for Lunar and Asteroid Surface Science (CLASS), The Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI) and The Florida Space Institute (FSI) network. [15]

Personal life

In 2006, her mother and stepfather died in a car crash, which Gerardi witnessed. A year later, she received a diagnosis of advanced lymphoma Stage IV, a very rare type of cancer with only 60 cases reported worldwide with no survivors. The cancer had spread throughout her whole body, and doctors gave her three months to live.[16]

During her chemotherapy treatments, Gerardi worked in two films in Mexico, filming in La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre.[17] Six months later, she was in Santa Juanita de los Lagos.[18] She underwent three years of chemotherapy and was photographed by Tina Nibbana during her treatments.[9][19]

Gerardi had a relationship with the American actor and comedian Eddie Murphy.[20][21]
