Shawn Pelofsky is an American comedian, writer, actress and producer. A regular performer at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, California, she has also entertained members of the United States Armed Forces all over the world, including Japan, South Korea, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Guantanamo Bay, San Diego, St. Nicholas Island, Bahrain, Dubai and Djibouti.[1] In 2016 she taped her first stand-up comedy special, Stretch It Out.

Early life

Pelofsky was born August 14 and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Daughter to a neurosurgeon father and artist mother, Pelofsky is Jewish and has four siblings.

Personal life

Pelofsky attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and graduated with a BA in School of Theater. She was also a part of Acme Comedy Theater (Bravo Company). On May 14, 2014, Pelofsky married Rafael Santos Oliviera, a SAP Specialist from Brazil. They held three weddings in the same year.[2] Pelofsky is a staunch supporter of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community.

Career

Comedy

A performer since the age of 8, it was only natural that Shawn would decide to pursue a career in comedy. During her time at University of Southern California, Pelofsky joined an improvisational group called, “Comedius Interruptus” which became the motivating factor for her to train at The Groundlings. This opportunity led to her performing sketches and improv with actor and Saturday Night Live alum Will Ferrell. After The Groundlings Pelofsky became a member of the ACME Comedy Theater. Pelofsky is a regular at Hollywood’s The World Famous Comedy Store. When she's not touring or performing for US troops[3] in places like Afghanistan, Bosnia, Bahrain and Guantanamo Bay, Shawn performs weekly on their infamous Main Room stage. Adding to her many comedic accolades, Shawn has been featured in The Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and in the all-female hit comedy tours Pretty Funny Women, Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad and The Hot Tamales produced by Eva Longoria. She has opened up for greats such as Richard Lewis, Robert Klein, Bill Maher and Margaret Cho. Pelofsky can be seen regularly taking gay male audiences by storm performing with the Atlantis Cruises[4] worldwide, Gay Prides around the USA, hosting HRC events and at The Comedy Store with her monthly hit "The Bathhouse Show".[5] In Pelofsky 2010 released her debut comedy album Shawn Pelofsky is Lady HaHa.[6][7] In 2016, Pelofsky taped and executive produced her stand-up comedy special, Stretch It Out.

Film and television

In 2017 Pelofsky became a producer on Funny You Should Ask which is executive produced by Byron Allen.[8] Guests of the comedy series have included Jackée Harry, Cedric the Entertainer, Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz, Cheryl Hines, Howie Mandel, Caroline Rhea, Tommy Davidson and David Alan Grier.

Pelofsky's film and television credits include Fridays, This Is Meg, Tri, Community, Fashion Police, Comics Unleashed, Just for Laughs: Montreal Comedy Festival, Chelsea Lately and Last Comic Standing.

Books

Pelofsky is the author of the upcoming title, The Death of Dating.[9]
