Shashank Arora is an Indian actor, writer and musician. His feature films have competed at more than two hundred film festivals around the world including Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Locarno, London, New York and the Sundance Film Festival.[1][2] He was nominated as best newcomer at the five major Indian film awards for his first feature film Titli.
Early life and education
Born Shashank 'Sunny' Arora on 21 February 1989 in New Delhi, Shashank was interested in music and theatre from a young age. After finishing high school in early 2006, he left for Montreal, Canada to study cinema and music. While there, he briefly joined a street theatre group formed by human rights activists. In 2008, he moved to Mumbai where he studied acting for two years, to pursue a career in film.[3][4]
Career
Shashank Arora first appeared as a supporting character in an indie feature film titled 'Myoho' (2012).
He then went on to play the title role in 'Titli'[5] (2014) which was a part of the Official Selection, Un Certain Regard at the 2014 Cannes International Film Festival.[6] He was also nominated at Filmfare and Stardust in the 'Best Debut' category for his role in Titli.
Post Titli, he completed work on his second film in late 2014, again in a title role, in the comedy Brahman Naman, which was a part of the Official Selection, World Cinema Dramatic Competition, at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
He has since finished work on 8 more feature films.
