Shahnaz Bashir is a Kashmiri novelist based in Srinagar, Kashmir. [1]
Education and Work
He is a university gold medalist in literature and teaches creative journalism and literary reportage at the Central University of Kashmir. [2]
Critical Acclaim
His debut novel The Half Mother , published by Harper Collins, won the Muse India Young Writer Award 2015 and his writings have been compared with Saadat Hasan Manto and Anton Chekov [3]. His second novel Scattered Souls [4] was shortlisted for Best Book - Fiction Award at Tata Lit Live Awards 2017. [5]
Bashir was awarded Shamin Ahmad Shamin Kashmir Times Award in 2007 and Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetia awarded him a writer's residency at Zurich. [6]
In 2017, Bashir won The Citizen's 'Talent of the Year award 2017'. [7]
For Kashmiri literature, at this point in time, Bashir believes that there is a lack of institutionalised platform for writers.[8]
