Seymour Remenick

Seymour Remenick (19231999) was a Philadelphia based artist mostly known for landscapes, but who also included a variety of other topics in his paintings.[1]

Remenick studied art at the Tyles School Fine Arts, the Hans Hofmann School, and the Pennsylvania Academy Fine Arts, where he also taught.[2]

Remenick's work has been exhibited in a variety of venues including the Philadelphia Museum of Art,[3] the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts,[4] the Philadelphia School of Painting,[5] the Terenchin[6] and the Davis Galleries.[7] His paintings have also been auctioned at Christie's.[8] The Lancaster Museum of Art published a book showing the works of his which had been in their museum.[9] Photographs of his paintings are also cataloged in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.[10]

Among his awards were a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, the Altman Prize, and the Hallmark Purchase Award.[11] Remenick had also been elected as an academician to the National Academy,[12] and had served as mentor to Giovanni Casadei,[13] Robert Dye[14] and others as a teacher at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.[15]

Education and personal life

Remenick was born in 1923 in Detroit, Michigan, and died in 1999 in Philadelphia.
