Jonathán Pérez, better known as Serio, is a Mexican American rap artist from Los Angeles, California, United States. He has worked with other chicano rap artists such as Kid Frost, Lighter Shade of Brown, Proper Dos, and MC Magic.[1][2][3]

Life and career

When Pérez was a child, his grandmother said that he always had a serious look on his face. It was for that reason she gave him the nickname, Serio, which in Spanish means serious. Serio claims he loved rap since childhood and started writing and rapping when he was a teenager.

Music career

He made his professional debut as a rap artist in 2005. In 2006, Serio released his first album, Nightmares Turned Into Reality.[4][5] His single, "I Got To Have You"[6] gained rotation on radio stations throughout the United States.[7] In 2008, Serio released the single, "Serio Controla" from his then upcoming second[8] album, N.T.I.R. Part 2 The Revenge of Serio, subsequently released in 2009. This time, his track, "In L.A." included a guest appearance by Kid Frost.[9] In 2011, his third album, Gansterism Part 3, was released featuring MC Magic on two tracks, "Serio Come Back" and "I'll Never Forget". Also featured on the album are Lighter Shade of Brown, Conejo, and Mr. Midget Loco.[10] Also in 2011, Pérez trademarked his pseudonym.

In 2012, Serio released another single "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Mexican" featuring Proper Dos and Conejo. The song challenged the new SB 1070 law that was passed in the state of Arizona, as well as anyone that might be bias towards Mexicans, since many politicians [1][3] seem to be tough on immigration. Serio's message in this song is that it is time for La Raza to stand up and tell all people that we should be treated fairly and equal as anyone in the United States.[11]

On February 13, 2013, Serio released his fourth album, Soy Chicano Rap. The album includes the controversial song "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Mexican" which highlighted the hopes that many had that the President and or Congress might come to an agreement on a fair immigration reform bill.

Also included on the album, the hit club song "Sexy Ladies". The song has been getting played in numerous clubs across the country already, and was leaked to DJs prior to the album's release.[12]

Serio has had a great deal of success[3] with his independent label, Serio Controla Records. To date, his label has released four solo albums and three DVDs, selling over a quarter-of-a-million units worldwide.[3] In addition he continues to work with his peers in Chicano Rap and plans to release a book in the near future. On the afternoon of May 20, 2016 he shot up at some deputy in Maricopa County, AZ at the police sub-station, when asked why, he simply replied 'to let foo's know Washifas is back' he was taken in to custody shortly after. As of 2018, Serio was recently released from Prison after the 2016 shooting of a deputy, he is now currently working on two new albums titled "S.U.R (Serio's Ultimate Revenge)" which consists of nothing but diss songs aimed towards his critics on social media. The "S.U.R" album features the very controversial song "Drama" where Serio dares anyone hearing the song to step up to him in real life because he will knock them out or shoot them, he also Raps about the major respect Serio got from the Surenos and their shot callers while he was incarcerated, another song is titled "I'm still here" in which Serio is attempting to Rap faster than Bone Thugs N Harmony and calls out his haters, the song has a sample of an AK47 shooting off from start to finish. The other album he has in the works is named "Gangster Por Vida" and is said to be Spanish Rap album that features Serio Rapping his biggest hits in spanish. He's also writing a movie script which he hopes will be made into a full length film in which Serio plays himself as the lead role. So far the working title for the script is named "God of Gangsters". The script is said to follow Serio's life of a teenage hoodlum that grew up in Highland Park who later moved to Washington State after shooting at and killing 23 rival gang members in a single day. After moving to Washington State to escape his rivals, Serio later starts his own gang in Washington State named "Washifas Locos Surenos 13 (WLS13)" which grows to be a 50,000 member gang in which Serio is the well respected leader. After being set up by a rival Mafia Don named "El Mero Mero" who is the leader of the "Muertos Cartel" out of jealousy and greed, Serio fakes his death in order to save his gorgeous model girlfriend who later escapes to Canada and is pregnant with Serio's unborn son, Serio is shot 13 times in a drive-by by the Muertos Cartel members and dies only to rise from the dead like Jesus Christ and is declared the "Immortal Big Homie" AKA "Cristo Del Sur" by the Sureno leadership in Prison, Serio also has magical powers to bless all Sureno soldiers in Prisons and on the streets with abilities to become invisible when attacking their enemies and when they are committing crime, Serio is later declared the God of Gangsters after all of the world's Street Gangs and Maria's bow down to him because he is very powerful and can also read the minds of his enemies. .[3][13]
