Seriés Aphōnos, a subsidiary label of Bronze Rat Records, focuses on instrumental music, soundtracks, spoken word, and other curio curations. It is curated by Welsh musician, producer and label owner Andrew Zammit.

Releases include Soft Rains by Zarelli (a musical reinterpretation of a Leonard Nimoy-narrated Ray Bradbury short story from The Martian Chronicles), the first vinyl release of the Krzyzstof Komeda-composed soundtrack to Roman Polanski's “Dance of the Vampires/Fearless Vampire Killers”, and Berlin avant-punk kollektiv Candy Bomber.

Seriés Aphōnos' themed and recurrent artwork is inspired by the aesthetic of 70s music libraries (such as Montparnasse 2000, Studio G, and Neuilly), and is based on a template designed and continued by Buffalo, NY artist Julian Montague.

Releases

SA01 – Solex – Solex Ahoy! The Sound Map Of The Netherlands

Masterminded by Dutch musician Elisabeth Esselink (AKA Solex), The Sound Map of the Netherlands is a collection of recordings shot on location in the 12 provinces of the Netherlands. Esselink trekked the numerous rivers, lakes and waterways in the Netherlands in an old motor boat, inviting a different cast of musicians to climb aboard for an improvised jam. The resulting material was refined in the studio to produce a sound-image for each province.

SA02 – Gemma Ray – Down Baby Down

Dubbed a 'fantasy soundtrack' by musician, composer and guitarist Gemma Ray, Down Baby Down is a largely instrumental collection of compositions. Featuring Thomas Wydler (drummer for Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds), as well as double bass, organ, the music mixes jazz-noir with gothic folk and haunting choral sounds.

SA03 – Tanger Trio & Ensemble Mondaine

Conceived by Hansjoern Brandenburg (musical director to Tom Waits, William S. Burroughs and Bob Wilson’s production The Black Rider), Ensemble Mondaine consists of woodwind, strings and voice and is made up of celebrated musicians from Greece, Egypt, Germany and France.

SA04 - Krzysztof Komeda - Dance of the Vampires (aka The Fearless Vampire Killers)

Though it was marketed at the time as a ‘farce’, Roman Polanski's Dance of the Vampires (widely known by its re-named title The Fearless Vampire Killers, or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are In My Neck) has become a cult classic. Available on vinyl for the first time, the Krzysztof Komeda-composed soundtrack does much to enhance the bleak wintery cinematography and stark production of the film.

SA05 - Cremator - Clear Air Turbulence

Cremator is London one-man synth musician Matt Thompson (Zoltan, Guapo). Clear Air Turbulence is inspired by sci-fi movie soundtracks and the work of John Carpenter and Kraftwerk.

SA06 - Zarelli - Soft Rains (featuring the voice of Leonard Nimoy)

Zarelli is the alter-ego of Welsh multi-instrumentalist Carwyn Ellis. Soft Rains sets the 1975 vocal recording of Leonard Nimoy reading Ray Bradbury’s unsettling but vital short story, There Will Come Soft Rains (taken from The Martian Chronicles) to fiery and intense music.

SA07 - Heavy Trash - Noir!

Noir! is an album of previously unreleased wig-outs, instrumentals, out-takes, and other unhinged gems recorded by Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray, who together are known as Heavy Trash.

SA08 - The Still - S/T

The Still are a cast of international musicians (including Chris Abrahams of The Necks) who congregate in Berlin to create hypnotic, perfectly-tensioned instrumental jazz-inspired music. The Still was featured in British music magazine Mojo's list of 50 best albums of 2016.[1]

BR50 - Candy Bomber - Vol. 1

The Candy Bomber sessions were spearheaded by Paul Lemp, co-owner of the studio of the same name, theater, film and dance composer, and bass player. The album, a noisy and free spirited collaboration with Thomas Wydler (drummer with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and studio partner Ingo Krauss, features guest spots from musicians including Gemma Ray, Kid Congo Powers, Toby Dammit and Jochen Arbeit (Einstürzende Neubauten).
