Sean Penkywicz (born 18 May 1982) is a Welsh international rugby league footballer who plays for Workington Town in Betfred League 1.[1][2] He plays as a hooker or scrum-half/halfback.

He played in the Super League for Halifax, and the Huddersfield Giants, in the Championship for the Leigh Centurions, and appeared in the inaugural 2017 season for the Toronto Wolfpack. He also represented Wales at international level.

Playing career

Beginning his career with Halifax, Penkywicz made his Super League début in 2000. He left Halifax and joined the Huddersfield Giants in 2004 following Halifax's relegation from Super League. In 2005, Penkywicz was banned from rugby league for two years for the use of stanozolol.[3] Following the completion of his ban, Penkywicz rejoined Halifax in the Championship in 2007. In 2008, he was named in the Wales squad to face England at the Keepmoat Stadium prior to England's departure for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[4] After 5 seasons with Halifax, Penkywicz joined Leigh Centurions in 2013. In 2015, Penkywicz was again banned for two years for the use of anabolic steroids.[5] Following the completion of his second ban, Penkywicz joined Toronto Wolfpack on a short term contract, making 13 appearances for the club during their inaugural 2017 season in League 1, and helping the team to promotion before retiring at the end of the season.
