Scroll.in is an independent Indian English-language news website started in 2014 by ACK Media founder Samir Patil and journalist Naresh Fernandes. It publishes a combination of short pieces and longer feature stories.[2] Satyagrah.scroll.in, a Hindi news website, is also part of Scroll.in.

History

Samir Patil had previously created ACK Media which published the Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle comics in India. ACK Media was sold to Future Ventures, the investment arm of Future Group, in 2012. Patil launched Scroll.in in January 2014, along with journalist Naresh Fernandes.[3] In June 2014, Scroll partnered with Atlantic Media to launch Quartz India, an edition of Quartz focusing on business news in the Indian subcontinent.[4][5] In 2015, Hindi media publishing company Satyagrah merged with Scroll, and the website started hosting Hindi-language content.[3]

The Omidyar Network and the Media Development Investment Fund have invested in the website.[6][7]

Awards

  • Scroll.in’s journalists won 4 Redink awards for 2017 for Excellence in Journalism[8][9]
  • Scroll.in’s Hindi website Satyagrah’s journalist won the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award for 2016[10][11][12]
  • Scroll.in’s journalist was one of the winners of the 2016 Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest conducted by the International Center for Journalists.[13][14]
