Scott Horton (radio host)

Scott Horton is the author of the book Fool's Errand: Time to End the War in Afghanistan, managing director of the Libertarian Institute, host of Antiwar Radio for Pacifica Radio's KPFK 90.7 FM in Los Angeles and KUCR in Riverside, California, and the foreign policy interview podcast, The Scott Horton Show. Horton conducts interviews with journalists, politicians, pundits, lawyers and experts on foreign policy and war-time law. Horton has recorded more than 4,700 interviews since 2003.

Horton is also the editorial director of the libertarian, non-interventionist website Antiwar.com. Horton was previously the host of Say It Ain't So on Free Radio Austin 97.1 FM, and the Weekend Interview Show and the KAOS Report on Radio KAOS 95.9 FM, for which he won The Austin Chronicle's Best of Austin award in 2007 for "Best Iraq War Coverage" and co-host of the KOOP Evening News. He is the founder and former owner of TheBumperSticker.com.

Libertarian Institute

In October 2016, Horton with Sheldon Richman, William Norman Grigg and Jared Labell created and launched the Libertarian Institute. From the website "Our goal is to unite the libertarian movement, and more importantly, to realign American politics — prioritizing opposition to the worst of state power: the permanent war state, the prison and police states, and corporate welfare, corrupt contracts, and bank bailouts that rig the economy for the political class. The Libertarian Institute’s mission is to prioritize these issues and work with other groups from across the political spectrum against the greatest of abuses by the State. The Libertarian Institute is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization formed in association with Taxpayer Education Foundation."

Publications

Horton published "Fool's Errand: Time to End the War in Afghanistan" in Summer 2017. In "Fool's Errand", Horton's first book, he explores America's entry into the near two-decade old war. He makes the case that the war in Afghanistan is unwinnable and that the broader interest of the United States, both at home and abroad, is best served by simply getting out and staying out.

Horton is married to investigative reporter Larisa Alexandrovna.^[1]

Politics

In 2004, Horton served as foreign policy adviser to Libertarian Party presidential candidate Michael Badnarik.

During primary season in 2007 Horton defended then-presidential candidate Ron Paul and his criticism of foreign intervention, saying that Paul did not "blame America" and concluded that "foreign occupation – American foreign policy – is a 'major contributing factor' in creating terrorism today, just as it was in the years before September 11th."^[2]
