Scooby-Doo! First Frights is a platform video game developed by Torus Games and published by WB Games.[4] The game tied in with the DVD release of Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins. This is the fourth Scooby-Doo game to use a laugh track.

Gameplay

Scooby-Doo! First Frights is a 3D linear platformer with light puzzle elements, and it contains 22 levels separated in 4 episodes.[5] You can play as Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, or Fred. Scooby has a sausage string to hit with, blocking capability, and the ability to crawl into vents. Shaggy shoots with a slingshot, has blocking capability, and carries a yo-yo to grapple with. Velma throws books, has blocking capability, and can activate machines. Daphne has hand-to-hand combat, flying kick, and can climb up poles. Fred has hand-to-hand combat, stun bombs, and super strength to push crates. Each character has 2 costumes unique to each episode, and one obtainable with a code, with different powers and weapons. Each level has a clue, and at the end of each episode you choose who you think the villain is, based on the evidence you have gathered. You can get trophies for doing certain tasks. You can unlock costumes for each of the 4 villains. You can also play with a friend in a multiplayer co-op.

The gameplay and interface are highly reminiscent of TT Games Lego game series.

Plot

The game begins with the Mystery, Inc. gang at their clubhouse located in a swamp. Velma arrives with a newspaper, announcing to the gang that there will be a food festival at Keystone Castle. Scooby and Shaggy like the idea of going, but Daphne reminds them that they promised to help her cousin Anna at the St. Louis High School Musical. Scooby and Shaggy want to help her, but they plan to get it done quickly so they can go to the food festival. The game divides into four episodes from here.

Episode 1 takes the gang to St. Louis High school to help Daphne's cousin Anna win a talent competition. When they arrive however, they discover the show is haunted by a phantom. The episode takes place over four levels: Level 1, Chase, Level 2, Boss. The first level is more of a tutorial, teaching you how to jump, attack, switch characters and use special abilities during the first third of the level with Shaggy and Scooby. The second third teaches you combat and introduces the clue finding with Fred and Velma; and the last segment with Daphne and Scooby you are taught about your courage meter. The clue found in the first level is a Phantom's glove on the sports field. In the chase level you play as Shaggy and Scooby as you run away from the Phantom. The second level has you play as Fred in an American Football costume and Daphne as you search the library and basement for clues and find a sports whistle. During the boss, you play as Fred and Velma and complete three objectives: turning off the lights, knocking skeletons of ropes, and defeating the Phantom. You are then presented with the whodunit minigame, where you can get monster mask trophies.

In Episode 2 the gang head out to a local amusement park so Scooby-Doo and Shaggy can practice their eating for the food festival, only for them to find out the place is overrun with evil toys under the control of a giant robot. The first level has Scooby and Shaggy going through the sewers and a small portion of the park to the food stands battling several different toy monsters. At the end the park's security guard spots them and tells them that if they make a sandwich for him he'll let them off the hook. Afterwards Shaggy reveals that he and Scooby are with Mystery Inc, saying that their friends are out for the "non-edible" type clues to which the guard mentions the Haunted House. In level 2 Daphne and Velma in a sumo-wrestler costume make a beeline for the Haunted House, only to be stopped by a kid named Numbers who mentions his gadgets to the girls. They all get attacked by some metal clowns but managed to survive the assault with Daphne and Velma continue to the Haunted House to find the detector that Numbers had earlier making him a suspect. In the Chase level Scooby-Doo and Shaggy run away from the robot and jump down a waterfall. In the third level Fred and Daphne make there way through town and meet up with a man named Tim who mentions a toymaker and find a catalog containing all the monster toys prompting the gang to head to the toy factory. In level 4 Scooby and Shaggy in an astronaut costume hop on some nearby by parade balloons and fight their way through the factory finding Tim Toiler's hat in the process. In the boss level you play as Velma and Daphne wearing a rock star outfit and you must destroy the robot. Afterwards, you play the whodunit minigame again.

In Episode 3 the group goes to a local seaside town named Rocky Bay, which has been invaded by sea monsters, crabs and evil fishermen. Level one has you play as Fred and Daphne fighting crabs and fishermen armed with anchors and cannons. The two meet up with a local named Cap'n Blue Beard who tells them about a legend involving a ghost ship which explains why all the crabs are attacking, mentions a man named Willy the Whaler, and introduces a guy named Seth Angler. In the second level Daphne and Fred meet up with Willy, who mentions the lost of his ship and suggests them to go to the lighthouse for a better view of the Bay. The two make their way there, fighting giant fish on the way, where they meet up with Seth, who requests help with a shipment of pearls.
