Sargochromis is a genus of haplochromine cichlids native to Southern and Central Africa.

There are currently eight recognized species in this genus:[1]

  • Sargochromis coulteri (Bell-Cross, 1975) (Cunene Happy)

  • Sargochromis mellandi (Boulenger, 1905) (Snaileater)
  • Sargochromis mortimeri (Bell-Cross, 1975) (Mortimer's Happy)
  • Sargochromis thysi (Poll, 1967)

Distribution

Some of the species have rather restricted geographic ranges; for example, S. coulteri is known chiefly from the Kunene and upper Zambezi River basins.[2]
