Sarath Wijesinghe

Senator Sarath Wijesinghe OBE was a Sri Lankan politician and businessmen. He was Cabinet Minister of Nationalised Services of S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike Government and was a member of the Senate of Ceylon from 1956 to 1960 and was the President of the Senate till 1965.[1]

Born to Muhandiram D. F. Wijesinghe of Kamburupitiya and Mrs. S. L. Goonatillake Wijesinghe of Weligama, wealthy planters and graphite mine owners. He was educated at the Royal College, Colombo and was married to one of the sisters of. Dr S. A. Wickramasinghe. He was the owner of Andapana Estate in Kamburupitiya, also several other Estates in the south. He was Chairman of several companies including Ceylon Glass Company & Ceylon Chocolates Ltd. He built Andapana Hospital and later handed over to the government. His Son in Law, Vernon Dissanayake, an Advocate of the Supreme Court also became a Senator.
