Sara Hughes (born 1971) is a Canadian-born New Zealand artist.

Background

Hughes was born in 1971 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.[1][2] She graduated in 2001 from the Elam School of Fine Arts with a Masters of Fine Arts.[3]

Career

Hughes is a painter and installation artist.[3]

Hughes is represented in Auckland by Gow Langsford Gallery[4] and in Melbourne by Sutton Gallery.[3]

Work by Hughes is included in a number of public collections including the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki,[2] Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa,[5] and the National Gallery of Australia.[6]

Awards

In 2003 Hughes received the Frances Hodgkins Fellowship[7] and the 2008/09 Creative New Zealand Berlin Visual Artists Residency.[8]

In 2005 Hughes won the Wallace Arts Trust paramount award[9] and the Norsewear Art Award.[8]
