Santiago Bevans (1777-1832) was an English engineer. In 1822 was hired by the Argentine government to take over the water system of Buenos Aires.[1]
Biography
Bevans was born in London, England, had arrived in the port of Buenos Aires on 2 November 1822, in company of his wife Priscilla Bright and family.[2] He had been hired by Bernardino Rivadavia. In 1823 it presents three projects for the port of the city, which consisted in form a dock of thirty-three acres.[3] That same year he ends the works of gas lighting of the Plaza de la Victoria (now Plaza de Mayo).[4]
His daughter María Bevans Bright, was married to Charles Henri Pellegrini, (born in Chambery) being the parents of the future Argentine president Carlos Pellegrini.[5]
