The Damascus Sanjak (Turkish: Şam Sancağı) was a prefecture (sanjak) of the Ottoman Empire, located in modern-day Syria and Lebanon. The city of Damascus was the Sanjak's capital. It had a population of 443,257 in 1914.[1]
Subdistricts
The sanjak was made up of nine districts (kazas):[2]
- Kaza of Damascus (Dımaşku'ş Şam)
- Kaza of Baalbek (Ba'albek)
- Kaza of Beqaa (Bekâu'l-aziz)
- Kaza of Hasbaya (Hasbeya)
- Kaza of Rashaya (Raşeya)
- Kaza of Al-Zabadani (Zübdânî)
- Kaza of Al-Nabek (Nebek)
- Kaza of Wadi Al-Ajam (Qatana) (Vadiyü'l Acem)
- Kaza of Qalamun Mountains (Douma) (Cebel-i Kalamun)
