Samuth Sithnaruepol (Thai: สมุทร ศิษย์นฤพนธ์) is a retired Thai professional boxer. He is the first Thai who won IBF world championship and weight class 105 lbs.
Boxing career
Samuth had fights in Muay Thai before, but not successful because there are more defeats than wins. He turned into a professional boxing in early 1982. He won 105 lbs title of Rajadamnern Stadium, including won the champion in this same division of the OPBF by Sr. Col. Banju Ongsangkune is manager he defended his OPBF title four times.
He was encouraged to challenge the vacant IBF mini flyweight with Pretty Boy Lucas a Filipino contender at Rajadamnern Stadium on March 24, 1988. The result was that he was the winner by TKO in the 11th round, because Lucas had a broken left eyebrow can't continue to fight. He became the 11th world champion of Thailand immediately.
Samuth defended two times before losing to Nico Thomas, an Indonesian boxer, who is the old rivalry on June 17, 1989 at Jakarta. (Nico Thomas became Indonesia's second world champion after Ellyas Pical).
Although he's a boxer who takes a world title. But at that time, his reputation is unknown or popular among Thai boxing fans, compared to other boxers in the same period, such as Khaosai Galaxy, Sot Chitalada, or Samart Payakaroon until that can be said. He is a forgotten world champion. Because at that time IBF was a newly formed organization and recently emerged in Thailand. It's not recognized as much. Attributed to his past before he became a boxer. He was a coolie.
After retirement, he entered military service as a Sergeant Major Second Class (SM2) at Department of Army Transportation.[1]
