The Saint Paul Tsaramasoandro Philosophate is a school of philosophy in Antananarivo, Madagascar that has served Jesuit seminarians since 1957, and since 1999 has been open to a larger student population. It is run by the Society of Jesus and currently situated adjacent to the College of Saint Michael, Amparibe campus.[1]

History

While the Jesuit school of philosophy in Madagascar goes back to 1957, the 1972 collaboration between the Jesuits and the Bishops Conference of Madagascar reduced the duration of the Philosophy program at the Catholic university to be reduced to two years, which was insufficient for the requirements of priestly training. In 1997, therefore, the new philosophate was founded, and in 1999 the Major Superiors of Madagascar requested access to the Philosophate for their members.[2] Saint Paul Tsaramasoandro is one of five priestly training houses for Jesuits in the Africa-Madagascar region.[3] These educational centres are also open to external students not associated with the Society of Jesus.

The Saint Paul Tsaramasoandro scholastic choral group is prominent for its recordings.[4][5]
