Saint Eigrad

St Eugrad's Church, Llaneugrad

Saint Eigrad was a sixth-century Welsh saint[1] and the founder of the St Eugrad's Church in Llaneugrad, Anglesey.[2]

Life

He was a son of king Caw of Strathclyde, a brother of saints Gildas,[3] and Samson of York and was a student of Saint Illtud.[4]

In 605 AD[5] he founded a church at Llaneugrad, Anglesey[6] and his brother St Gallgo, founded a church at Llanallgo, neably.[7] Today the two churches are in the same parish.

Memorial

His feast day is 6 January,[8] and is celebrated in the villages of Egreas and Llaneigrad on Anglesey.[9]
