Safe Harbour is a 2018 Australian drama series screening on SBS. The four-part miniseries is a Matchbox Pictures production, directed by Glendyn Ivin and written by Belinda Chayko, Matt Cameron and Phil Enchelmaier. It is executive produced by Sue Masters and Stephen Corvini.[1]
Synopsis
A group of friends from Brisbane on a sailing holiday of a lifetime to Indonesia cross paths with a fishing boat overloaded with asylum seekers en route to Australia which alters their lives forever.[2][3]
Reception
Safe Harbour was critically acclaimed but did not perform that well in the ratings.[4] Luke Buckmaster of The Guardian called it "deeply compelling".[5] Mama Mia's entertainment editor Laura Brodnik praised the series and says it leaves viewers asking "one nagging question". "What would you do?"[6] Wenlei Ma of news. com.au calls it unmissable, writing "When Australian TV is seemingly filled, wall-to-wall, with one same-same reality franchise after another, it can be hard to find quality Australian stories that offer you something new. This is one, and you best not miss it."[7]
