In 2017, the Jacksonville Jaguars' defense was the second best in the National Football League (NFL), and had a league-leading 55 sacks. The fans started calling it "Sacksonville" after a 29–7 win over the Houston Texans, their AFC South division rivals.

History

After a 29–7 blowout win in week 1 of the 2017 NFL season against the Houston Texans, with a 10-sack performance, including a 4-sack game for newly acquired free agent Calais Campbell, the Jaguars fanbase collectively started a trend called Sacksonville.[1] The team ended up winning 9 more games, and winning the franchise’s first AFC South title, making the postseason for the first time since 2007.[2][3] They won the AFC Wild Card Game against the Buffalo Bills 10-3. In the AFC Divisional round they narrowly defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 45–42. It was the second time Pittsburgh lost at home twice against the same team; coincidentally, the first time was against Jacksonville back in 2007. Jacksonville then went to its first AFC Championship Game since 1999, where they lost 24–20 against the New England Patriots, ending their season. Following the season, cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and A. J. Bouye, defensive end Calais Campbell, defensive tackle Malik Jackson, and linebacker Telvin Smith earned Pro Bowl honors. Ramsey and Campbell earned First-Team All-Pro honors, while Smith and Bouye earned Second-Team honors. Following Campbell pulling out of the Pro Bowl, teammate Yannick Ngakoue was voted in as an alternate.
