Director Sabbir Khan on set of Kambakkht Ishq (2009) with Sylvester Stallone

Sabbir Khan is an Indian film directorsreenwriter. In 2009 he made his directorial debut with the film Kambakkht Ishq (2009)[1] that starred Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.[2] The film released on 3 July 2009 worldwide.[3] Sabbir's second movie, Heropanti starring Tiger Shroff & Kriti Sanon, released on 23 May 2014.[4]

Early life

Sabbir's childhood was particularly formative, as he was literally born and raised within the Hindi Film industry. His father was a lyricist in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The loss of his mother at a very early age and being raised by a single parent meant endless trips to movie and recording studios, where he watched; unknowingly learnt; from the greatest names in Hindi Cinema. He spent much of his sophomore years aimlessly dreaming of being in movie studios and making films. After dabbling in trivial part-time advertising jobs, he began his journey into Direction

Career

He assisted two maverick film makers, Mahesh Bhatt and David Dhawan, initially. Having worked on a couple of films with both the Directors, he started work with Sajid Nadiadwala's company, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment,[5] in various capacities, also graduating to directing music videos and trailers.

He later wrote the screenplay for Kambakkht Ishq [2009], after having discarded two previous attempts. He was quite confident of the entertainment value of his project and to add to the same, he pulled out all stops. In a first for Indian Cinema, his movie featured cameo appearances from A-list Hollywood actors including, Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards, Brandon Routh and Holly Valance among others.[6] The film was shot mostly in Hollywood, Los Angeles and Italy and finished on sound stages in Mumbai.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala the movie, Sabbir Khan's directorial debut, was released on 3 July 2009.[7]

Sabbir Khan's next directorial venture Heropanti released on 23 May 2014. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, it stars debutante actors Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon. He then directed Baaghi. Sabbir is now directed his fourth film "Munna Michael" starring Tiger Shroff.[8] Film critic Komal Nahta commented, "Sabbir Khan does a fine job as director."[9]
