SC Dnipro-1 is a professional Ukrainian football team from Dnipro. The club is competing in the 2018–19 Ukrainian First League.[2]

History

The club owners are Maksym Bereza[lower-alpha 1] and Hennadiy Polonskyi. The club adopted an emblem similar to the Police Special Patrol Detachment Dnipro-1 that used to be led by Yuriy Bereza which represents the Lisovskyi tryzub.

On 6 July 2017, it was announced that SC Dnipro-1 would also adopt the FC Dnipro football school.[3] The same day SC Dnipro-1 announced its squad for the upcoming 2017–18 Ukrainian Second League season, having a number of well known footballers in Ukraine such as Yevhen Cheberyachko, Serhiy Kravchenko and many others.[4]

Criticism

The club has been heavily criticised by various Ukrainian fans because of trying to take over the history of FC «Dnipro» as well as transferring almost whole squad and coaches to their team. It is often said that Ihor Kolomoiskyi uses this club to create a substitute of FC not to pay its debts but to still have a strong club.

Also «Dnipro-1» is heavily criticised because of transferring to Second League without having the right to. The club had to spend one whole season in Amateur championship but never participated higher than in regional championship.

Coaches and players of SC are often labelled as sellouts, who traded their own club (FC «Dnipro») and transferred to the newly formed, which leads to general hate towards them from other teams and ultras groups.

Ultras also get such labels because almost all of them have been supporting the club because they have relatives playing there or because they were given money or forced to go there. This even led to fight during the game Dnipro versus Dnipro-1 where Yuriy Bereza was injured. After that the quantity of active supporters has decreased rapidly, finishing the process which has gradually been going on for some months.

Fans of the club also got strong criticism because of not sitting in the specially separated areas for ultras called «cages» while playing away matches with FC «Dnipro» on the same stadium where SC «Dnipro-1» plays there home matches. However they have moved in those areas after the fight during the derby.

Because of not agreeing with FC «Dnipro» going downhill and SC «Dnipro-1» taking over their place active supporters of the first ones have created a new club FC «Dnipro 1918», which is bulit on different policies (not supporting oligarchy in football and gradually climbing up the divisions rather than avoiding the regulations to fasten the process).
