S. P. P. Thorat
Shankarrao Pandurang Patil Thorat (born 12 August 1906 at Vadgav, District Kolhapur; Maharashtra died on 10 August 1992) was an Indian Army former Lieutenant General who led the Eastern Command in the lead up to the 1962 Sino-Indian War.[1]
He was born on 12 August 1906, in Vadgaon village in the erstwhile princely state of Kolhapur. He studied in SP College, Pune and then at Sandhurst Royal Medical College and joined the Royal Indian Army as a Commissioned Officer.
During World War II, Colonel Thorat commanded battalion-level formations fighting against Japanese forces.[2]
