S-Line (Norfolk Southern)

The Norfolk Southern S-Line is a secondary railroad line which runs between Morristown, Tennessee and Salisbury, North Carolina.

It is operated by Norfolk Southern Railway under 2 divisions. Half of the line is within the Piedmont Division[1] and the other half is in the Central Division.

Trains

Trains on the S-Line are mainly manifests, locals to and from Asheville and Salisbury, North Carolina and coal trains to Catawba and Belmont, North Carolina. Local trains operate at several different yards between Salisbury and Asheville, North Carolina. Intermodal trains and Amtrak passenger trains do not use this line.

All trains are required to be given track authorities from the Asheville Dispatcher.

Even numbered trains are Eastbound and odd numbered trains are Westbound. Other than 123 and locals that turn and keep the same train number.

Locals

#P-29 -- (Barber, NC - Statesville, NC; Turn)(Runs as Needed).

#P-60 -- (Hickory, NC - Linwood, NC) 7 days a week

#P-61 -- (Linwood, NC - Hickory, NC) 7 days a week.

#P-62 -- Late Evening to Early Morning Sunday through Thursday. Barber switcher.

#P-95 -- Works in the Hickory/Newton area weekly, Mid Morning Early Afternoon. (Mon-Fri).

#P-71 -- Works from Hickory to Bridgewater early morning leaves oyama around 6 or 8 gets back around 10-2 depending on freight wise

#P-87 -- (Mon-Fri)(Asheville, NC - Bridgewater, NC) Departs Asheville midmorning back in Asheville before or just after 135.

#P-89 -- Helper set on coal trains.Helpers are usually taken to the coal plant, but sometimes are uncoupled at Ridgecrest, NC or Old Fort, NC. (Runs as needed).

#T-29 -- (Newport,TN to Morristown,TN and Bull's Gap,TN) 5 days a week

#T-28 -- (Morristown,TN to White Pine,TN) a few days a week.

Manifest

#135 (Westbound) - Linwood to Chattanooga. Usually departs Linwood between 10:00AM and 12:00PM.

#123 (Eastbound) - Decatur to Linwood. (Daily)

#M23 (Eastbound) - Decatur to Linwood. 123's extra. (Runs as needed)

#M35 (Westbound) - Linwood to Chattanooga. 135's extra. (Runs as needed)

#76M (Eastbound) - Knoxville to Linwood.

#61G (Westbound) - Loaded Woodchip Train (Columbia, SC - Asheville, NC). (Runs as needed)

#60G (Eastbound) - Empty Woodchip Train (Asheville, NC - Columbia, SC). (Runs as needed)

#740 (Eastbound) - Loaded Coal Train to Catawba, NC from Conway, PA (Runs as needed).

#741 (Westbound) - Empty Coal Train from Catawba, NC to Conway, PA (Runs as needed).
