Admiral Chabanenko is a Russian missile-destroyer in the Udaloy-class. The destroyer was laid down in the Soviet union in 1989 and was finished by Russia 10 years later. In 1999 it became active with the Russian Northern Fleet. The Admiral Chabanenko is an updated version of the Project 1155 also called Udaloy-II class. The ship includes updated weapon systems like the SS-N-22 anti-ship missile and the "Zvezda" M-2 series sonar system.
In 2008 the Admiral Chabanenko became the first Russian warship to sail through the Panama Canal since World War II.[2]
As of November 2017 the ship is docked at Murmansk awaiting a refit that will include new gas turbine engines. The destroyer is planned to return to service in 2019.
