History

The bishopric of Rusada was founded in the Roman Empire.[1] [2] The seat of the diocese of was the ancient Roman town of the Roman province of Mauretania Caesariensis called Rusado, which has been tentatively identified with ruins at Azeffoun in today's Algeria.[3]

The diocese ceased to effectively function with the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb in the 7th century but Rusado survives as a titular bishopric, the current bishop being Georges Abou Khazen, apostolic vicar of Aleppo.
