Rumania Montevideo was a Japanese pop-band under Giza Studio label active in years 1998-2002. The band name, "Rumania Montevideo" comes from the combination on the Latin spelling of Romania and Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.

Biography

1998

On December 1998, Miyoshi siblings Mami and Makoto send demo tape to Giza Studio and formed own band with later members Akiko, Satomi and Kazunobu joining in.[1]

1999

In January 25, the on-air version of their upcoming debut single, "still for your love" aired as an ending theme for Anime television series Detective Conan.[2] In January 30, complete version of their debut mini album Jet Plane was released under indies label Tent House. The album was re-printed two months later.

In February, Miyoshi siblings participated in recording of album Eien by popular Japanese band, Zard. Mami provided backing vocals and Makoto composed song I Feel Fine, Yeah.[3]

In April, they've made major debut with single Still for your love which ranked first week #9 rank in Oricon rankings.[4]

In May, they've made appearance in famous music program Music Station as the first Giza Studio artist. During interview with Tamori, Makoto has explained meaning behind the name of the band.[5]

In 1999 they've released two mini albums, three singles and one studio album.

2000

In May, Miyoshi siblings Mami and Makoto without other members held acoustic live performance "UNDOWN vol.4" as part of live session at Shibuya Club Quattro. They performed songs from indies albums and one song from Rumaniamania.[6][7] This was their first and the last live performance.

In November, three months after the release of their single Start All Over Again, three members of band - Akiko, Satomi and Kazunobu formed new alternative band Ramjet Pulley.[8][9]

In 2000 they've released two singles and studio album.

2001-2002

In December, Mami and Akiko participated in the R&B cover album Giza studio R&B Respect covering Killing Me Softly with His Song by Lori Lieberman and Free by Deniece Williams.[10][11]

On the month, their sixth single Hard Rain was included in the compilation album Giza Studio Masterpiece Blend 2001.[12]

In 2001 they've released singles Hard Rain and Tender Rain. Both of the singles had failed to chart at the Oricon Weekly rankings.

In February, after release of their third studio album Mo' Better Tracks they went into unannounced indefinite hiatus.

Band hiatus and afterward activities

In May 2003, Mami appeared in Pan Kojou Live as guest singer on the event "Oldies Night" along with Japanese singer-songwriter Keiko Utoku.[13][14]

Later Mami composed song Ikitakuwanai Bokura for Japanese singer Azumi Uehara,[15] she was active until 2006.

Makoto continued his music activities with various Giza artist such as The Tambourines, Uura Saeka, Aiko Kitahara and U-ka Saegusa until 2007.

Their alternative band Ramjet Pulley went into indefinite hiatus in 2003 and represent themselves in credit staff as both ex Rumania Montevideo and Ramjet Pulley.

Kazunobu continued his music activity for various Giza artists such as Aiko Kitahara and U-ka Saegusa in dB as composer and arranger until 2007.

Akiko and Satomi presence became unknown after 2003.

During their career, they've released 3 studio albums, 2 indies album and 7 singles.[16]
