Roy MacLeod
Roy MacLeod is a British historian.
Life
He studied History at Harvard University and the History of Science at Cambridge University. He has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bologna.[1]
Career
Roy Macleod arrived at the University of Sussex in 1965 at the invitation of Asa Briggs and was appointed a founding Research Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit in 1966. Four years later, in 1970, he was appointed a Reader in the History and Philosophy of Science and set up a new subject group called the History and Social Studies of Science. He left the University of Sussex in 1978. [2]
He is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Sydney, and an Honorary Associate in the History and Philosophy of Science.[3]
Distinctions
He is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London,[4] of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia,[5] and also of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.[3][6] He has twice been a fellow at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in the United States (now the Science History Institute)[7] and in 2017 the Royal Society of New South Wales awarded him its History of Philosphy and Science Medal.[8]
