Rory Smith (journalist)
Rory Smith is a journalist, broadcaster and author.
Formerly of The Independent, The Times,[1] and The Daily Telegraph,[2] Smith is now Chief Soccer Correspondent with The New York Times.[3][4]
Smith’s book ‘Mister’ was short listed for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year in 2016.[5][6][7][8][9] Mister was included in the best 50 football books ever written in a list compiled by Four Four Two.[10]
A frequent guest on BBC Radio Five Live[11][12][13][14] Smith has also written for ESPN,[15]The Blizzard[16] and FourFourTwo.[17] He has appeared on the Second Captains podcast,[18] often on The Anfield Wrap[19][20] as well as recording his own weekly ‘Set Piece Menu’ podcast with Hugh Ferris, Steve Wyeth and former England international Andy Hinchcliffe.[21][22][23] Television appearances include Sky Sports Sunday Supplement.[24]
In 2015 he was highly commended by the Sports Journalists' Association[25] He was nominated for writer of the year at the 2013[26] 2015,[27] and 2017 Football Supporters Federation Awards, [28] winning in 2015.[29]
