Ron Zwanziger

Ron Zwanziger (born 1954, Tel Aviv, Israel) is an American entrepreneur and philanthropist.[1]

Education

He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Imperial College London in 1975 and his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1981.[2]

Career

Zwanziger was a founder of Medisense Inc.,[3] a maker of glucose meters, in 1981, and served as CEO until 1991.[4] Medisense was later acquired by Abbott Laboratories in 1996 for $876 million.[5]

Zwanziger was a founder of Alere Inc. (then called Selfcare Inc.),[6][2] a maker of diagnostic testing devices, in 1991.[4] He served as CEO until 2014.[7][8][9] Its diabetes unit was sold to Johnson and Johnson in 2001 for $1.3 billion.[10][6] Alere acquired San Diego-based Biosite Inc. in a $1.7 billion hostile takeover in 2007.[11] Abbott acquired Alere in 2017 for $5.3 billion.[12][6]
