Ron Parker (born August 17, 1987) is an American football free safety for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He had also played for the Oakland Raiders, the Carolina Panthers, and had a brief stint with the Atlanta Falcons. He played college football for Newberry College.

Early years

Parker's father, Ronzo, was a truck driver and his mother Rose worked at a Montessori public school. Parker was raised near Beaufort, South Carolina. Attended Beaufort High School.[1]

College career

In 2009, Parker was selected to the first team All-American by Don Hansen's Football Gazette and to the second team All-American by D2Football.com and Daktronics.[2] Parker also was selected to the first team all-Super Region selection by Daktronics and also was named to the all-South Atlantic Conference first team.[2] Parker was selected to the first team All-American by D2Football.com and Don Hansen's Football Gazette.[2] Parker was selected to the second team All-American by Daktronics and a third team Little All-American by the Associated Press following his senior season.[2]

Professional career

Seattle Seahawks (first stint)

Parker was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent following the 2011 NFL Draft.[3] He was released on August 31, 2011 and was signed to the practice squad on September 5.[4] He was released on September 22, 2011.[5]

Oakland Raiders

Parker was signed to the Oakland Raiders' practice squad on September 26, 2011. On October 1, 2011, he was promoted to the Raiders' active roster.[5] He was released on October 22, 2011.[6]

Seattle Seahawks (second stint)

Parker was claimed off waivers by the Seahawks on October 24, 2011.[7] He was released on August 26, 2012.[5]

Carolina Panthers

On September 2, 2012, Parker was signed to the Panthers' practice squad.[8] He was promoted to the active roster on October 6, 2012, then was released on October 8 and re-signed to the practice squad two days later.[9][10] He was promoted to the active roster again on October 17, 2012, then later released and signed to the practice squad on November 7, 2012.[5]

Seattle Seahawks (third stint)

On December 5, 2012, Parker was signed by the Seahawks off the Panthers' practice squad.[11] He was released on December 28, 2012 and signed to the practice squad three days later.[12] He was released on August 13, 2013.[5]

Kansas City Chiefs (first stint)

On September 1, 2013, Parker was claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs.[13] He recorded his first career interception in Week 15 against the Oakland Raiders off Matt McGloin. He went on to play all 16 games with one start recording 17 tackles, three passes defensed, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

In 2014, Parker started 15 games recording a career-high 94 tackles, 12 passes defensed, one interception, and one forced fumble.

On March 16, 2015, Parker signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Chiefs.[14]

Parker started all 16 games for the Chiefs at free safety in 2015 and 2016, recording 78 and 61 tackles, 12 passes defensed both seasons, one and two forced fumbles, and three and one interceptions, respectively.

On March 12, 2018, Parker was released by the Chiefs after five seasons.[15]

Atlanta Falcons

On June 25, 2018, Parker signed with the Atlanta Falcons.[16] He was released on August 31, 2018.[17]

Kansas City Chiefs (second stint)

Parker signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on September 2, 2018, just a few months after the Chiefs released him.[18]
