Val Anthony Ronald Lawrence (born[1] November 14, 1968), known professionally as Ron "Amen-Ra" Lawrence is an American producer.

Lawrence was born on the island of Dominica. In 1970, his family immigrated to The United States, settling in the East Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens, New York City. He attended New York's High School of Art and Design, and became a member of the rap groups "The Turnout Brothers" & "Super Lovers". After high school, Lawrence attended Howard University in Washington, D.C.

In college he met Deric "D-Dot" Angelettie, and they formed the rap duo "Two Kings in a Cipher[2]." The duo released the album "From Pyramids to Projects". Later the duo joined "The Hit Men[3]," a production team of Bad Boy Entertainment, as well as fellow Howard University alumnus Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Music career

Ron became a musical innovator during his time with The Hit Men. He is responsible for numerous Hip Hop[4] and R&B[5] hits that ruled the airwaves. He is best known for his popular singles: Hypnotize performed by The Notorious B.I.G, Been Around The World performed by Sean "Diddy" Combs[6], Where I'm From[7] performed by Jay-Z[8], Money, Power, Respect performed by The Lox, his Grammy nominated single Love Like This & All Night Long performed by Faith Evans, Phenomenon performed by LL Cool J, You Should Be Mine performed by Brian McKnight, Can't Let Her Go performed by Boyz II Men, Cold Rock A Party (remix) performed by MC Lyte, and The Theme (It's Party Time) performed by Tracey Lee. He produced a song called Wonderful for Ms. Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul for album "So Damn Happy" in which she received the "Best Vocal Performance" Grammy award. Ron, also received a NARAS Governors Award by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences on June 23, 1998 .

Ron created the movie score of Spike Lee's Bamboozled[9], as well as appearing in the film as a musical engineer. He produced the theme song for the Pink Panther soundtrack titled A Woman Like Me for Beyoncé. Jumping into film was a natural progression.

Mr. Lawrence studied film at the New York Film Academy and debuted his first short-film titled "Founding Fathers",[10] a documentary about the birth and evolution of Hip Hop.

In 2014 Ron started a film production company, "Spotlyte Media[11]". In 2015 he produced and edited the short film "Above The Sun[12]". In 2016 he wrote, directed and produced the short film, "Angel Of Light[13]" and the documentary "Commutation For Guy Fisher". In 2017, he produced, directed and edited the documentary Rap Dimension[14] and In 2018, produced and edited the webisode series, "Diary Of A Music Producer".

Personal life

Ron is a cancer survivor that lives in West Palm Beach, Florida with his wife, Shay Lawrence and their three children.
