Rolf Knierim

Rolf Paul Knierim (8 July 1928 – 29 September 2018)[1] was a German American theologian and biblical scholar who specialized in the research of Old Testament. He was a tenured professor at the Claremont School of Theology and professor of religious studies at Claremont Graduate University.[2]

Knierim was born in Pirmasens, Germany. He studied at the University of Heidelberg under Gerhard von Rad.[3] In 1996, a Festschrift was published in his honor. Problems in Biblical Theology: Essays in Honor of Rolf Knierim ( ISBN 0-8028-3803-0) included contributions from scholars such as Klaus Koch, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Rolf Rendtorff, James A. Sanders, and Claus Westermann.

Knierim and his wife, Hildegard, were killed in a car accident in Arizona on the 29 September 2018.[1]
