Robert Shirley, 14th Earl Ferrers

Robert William Saswalo Shirley, 14th Earl Ferrers (born 29 December 1952), styled Viscount Tamworth from 1954 to 2012, is a chartered accountant and a British peer.

Early life

Earl Ferrers was born on 29 September 1952. He was educated at Ampleforth College, Ampleforth, Yorkshire, England. He succeeded to the title of Earl Ferrers upon the death of his father, Robert Shirley, 13th Earl Ferrers on 13 November 2012.[1]

Career

Shirley became a chartered accountant. In 1994, he co-founded Ruffer Investment Management, an investment management firm, with Jonathan Ruffer and Jane Tufnell.[2][3] The firm was renamed Ruffer LLP in 2004 and is now based at 80 Victoria Street, London.[4]

Philanthropy

Shirley serves on the Auckland Castle Trust.[5]

Personal life

Shirley married Susannah Mary Sheepshanks, daughter of Charles Edward William Sheepshanks, on 21 June 1980. Their children are:

  • Lady Hermione Mary Annabel Shirley (b. 11 December 1982)
  • William Robert Charles Shirley, Viscount Tamworth (b. 10 December 1984)
  • Hon. Frederick James Walter Shirley (b. 1990)

The family country seat is Ditchingham Hall near the village of Ditchingham, south Norfolk.
