Ritsu Dōan (堂安律, Dōan Ritsu, born 16 June 1998) is a Japanese professional footballer. He currently plays as an attacking midfielder for FC Groningen in the Eredivisie.[1][2][3][4]

Club career

Dōan was born in Amagasaki on June 16, 1998. He joined J1 League club Gamba Osaka from youth team in 2015. May 27, he debuted against FC Seoul in 2015 AFC Champions League. However he could hardly play in the match in the top team, he mainly played newly established team Gamba Osaka U-23 in J3 League in 2016.[5] In 2017, his opportunity to play increased in top team. He moved to Eredivisie club FC Groningen in June 2017.

The loan deal also included an option for FC Groningen to sign Dōan on a permanent basis to a 3-year contract. The option was exercised on April 23, 2018, meaning that Doan will transfer to FC Groningen on a permanent basis on July 1, 2018.[6]

On 15 April 2018, against Roda, Dōan scored his eighth goal of the season equalling the total of goals Arjen Robben scored as a teenager for Groningen.[7]

International career

Youth

In May 2017, Doan was elected Japan U-20 national team for 2017 U-20 World Cup. At this tournament, he played full-time in all 4 matches and scored 3 goals.[8]

Senior

On 30 August 2018, Dōan received his first international callup from the Japan national football team for the Kirin Challenge Cup 2018.[9]
